How Hair Loss Treatment works
Finasteride lowers DHT
DHT is the hormone that shrinks hair follicles in male pattern baldness. Finasteride reduces it by about 70 per cent.
Minoxidil improves supply
Applied to the scalp, it widens blood vessels around the follicle and extends the growth phase.
Better together
They act on different parts of the problem, so using both usually achieves more than either alone.
How to take Hair Loss Treatment
- One finasteride tablet daily
- At any time of day, with or without food.
- Minoxidil twice a day
- Applied to a dry scalp and left to absorb. Wash your hands afterwards.
- Give it six months
- Nothing visible happens quickly. Some shedding in the first weeks is normal and is not the treatment failing.

Hair maintained by treatment is gradually lost again over about a year. Both treatments hold the position rather than curing the cause.
Are there side effects with finasteride?
A small number of men report reduced libido or erectile difficulties, usually in the first months and usually reversible on stopping. The assessment covers this and you can discuss it with the prescriber.
